Barcelona managed to overcome a tough encounter against Leganés at the Butarque Stadium, securing a hard-fought 1–0 win to continue their pursuit in the La Liga title race. The team now prepares to face German side Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, after a dominant 4–0 victory in the first leg.

Raphinha’s future at Barcelona now appears more open than it did just a few weeks ago. Despite the high regard in which the Brazilian winger is held at the club and his strong performances this season, his high financial demands could accelerate his departure earlier than expected.

According to the “Tot Costa” program on Catalonia Radio, negotiations have already begun between sporting director Deco and the player’s representatives regarding a potential contract renewal. Barcelona believes that Raphinha’s decisive performances this season in both La Liga and the Champions League even matching Messi’s records in Europe’s top competition, justify improving his contract, which currently runs until June 2027.

However, the negotiations have not been easy. The player’s representatives presented very high financial demands, more aligned with Premier League or Saudi Pro League standards, beyond Barcelona’s current financial capabilities. Deco’s response was clear: if Raphinha finds a club willing to meet those demands and submit a transfer offer between €80–90 million, the club would be open to considering it.

Initially, the club was willing to extend Raphinha’s contract under a model similar to Ronald Araújo’s with a reasonable release clause and a salary structure that fits within Financial Fair Play regulations. But the situation has changed due to the club’s delicate financial state and other transfer priorities, such as reinforcing the defensive midfield and left-back positions.

In this context, Raphinha is not considered “untouchable,” unlike players like Lamine Yamal, who represent a long-term project for the club.

A key milestone looms in the summer of 2026, just before the FIFA World Cup. Those close to Raphinha have made it clear that he won’t seriously consider leaving Europe unless he receives an extraordinary offer making a move to the Saudi league unlikely for now, even though it’s the only market capable of meeting his demands.

Still, the door remains open. Although Barcelona would like to keep Raphinha if negotiations proceed under realistic terms, the club is also aware of the need for strategic player sales to reduce the wage bill and fund more urgent signings.

Raphinha is currently enjoying one of his best spells at Barcelona and has earned the trust of Hansi Flick, who values his commitment and tactical development. Nonetheless, Deco has made it clear that the winger’s future depends on financial balance, and any significant offer will be seriously evaluated.

Between the club’s desire to retain him and the financial realities demanding tough decisions, a heated summer is expected at Camp Nou with Raphinha set to be one of the biggest names on the table.
