Barcelona is intensifying its efforts in the transfer market, aiming to secure key signings to bolster coach Hansi Flick’s project for the upcoming season. The objective is to address the deficiencies the team experienced during Flick’s first year at the helm.
Under Flick’s leadership, the team returned to the winner’s circle, claiming a domestic treble consisting of La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. Barcelona also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, ultimately bowing out in a highly controversial match against Inter Milan.
According to the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Barcelona has submitted an official offer to Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, a 2022 World Cup winner, with the intention of bringing him in during the current summer transfer window.
The Catalan club appears open to the idea of signing the experienced international, who played a pivotal role in Argentina’s World Cup triumph and has established himself in recent years as one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers.
While Barcelona’s interest in Martinez might raise some eyebrows, it makes strategic sense given the club’s need for reinforcement in the goalkeeping department—particularly with ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of Wojciech Szczesny. The Polish goalkeeper was offered a one-year contract extension, but has shown reluctance to continue, having returned from retirement only at the end of last year.
