Real Madrid is witnessing a surprising development after Spanish media reports revealed the strict conditions set by Portuguese coach José Mourinho for agreeing to return to manage the team in the coming period.
According to the Spanish newspaper “ESdiario,” Mourinho has stipulated a two-year contract with full authority over the sporting project, including technical decisions regarding player signings and departures.
The Portuguese coach also demanded complete control over the transfer market, requesting a preliminary list of seven players deemed outside his future plans. This list would pave the way for their departure during the upcoming transfer window, as part of a plan to rebuild the team according to his vision.
The list, according to reports, includes Dani Ceballos, David Alaba, Ferland Mendy, Fran García, Raúl Asensio, Brahim Díaz, and Aurélien Tchouaméni, reflecting the extent of the potential changes within the team.
Mourinho also requested to work with his coaching staff, brought in from Benfica, while retaining Álvaro Arbeloa within Real Madrid’s technical team, with the aim of supporting his project and restoring discipline in the dressing room.
The Portuguese coach’s demands did not stop there. He insisted on the departure of fitness coach Antonio Pintus due to recurring muscle injuries within the squad, in addition to reducing the summer pre-season tours in the United States and Asia to maintain the players’ physical condition.
Mourinho also proposed relying on an independent medical committee to assess injuries, stipulating that Florentino Pérez be the sole point of contact between him and the club’s management, with no other interference in technical decisions.
Real Madrid’s management is currently considering all the demands, amid internal divisions regarding the idea of granting the Portuguese coach such broad powers, while some believe his strong personality could be the key to returning the team to winning ways.
These developments come amid a difficult season for Real Madrid, marked by declining results and clear instability in the team’s management. This has opened the door to the possibility of a return for Mourinho, who previously managed the club between 2010 and 2013, winning several major titles.
The Spanish sports community is awaiting the final decision on this matter, which could significantly alter Real Madrid’s project in the coming period.
