Spanish press reports reported today, Tuesday, that Barcelona was involved in the “ghost goal” incident scored by Lamine Yamal, the team’s player, in the last El Clásico against Real Madrid.
Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 3-2 last Sunday, in a match held at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, in the 32nd round of the Spanish League.
In the 28th minute of the match, Lamine Yamal blocked a corner kick with a direct shot, and goalkeeper Andrey Lunin blocked it with difficulty, making it appear as if it had crossed the goal line. Barcelona players demanded that the goal be counted, but the referee spent several minutes waiting for the video referee’s decision, which confirmed that the ball had not completely crossed the goal line, and the referee decided to continue playing.
After the match, Barcelona officials complained about the lack of use of the “Hawk Eye” technique in the Spanish League, which led to controversy over the necessity of applying the technique.
However, according to the Spanish program “El Chirengeto”, Real Madrid had previously voted to implement the “Hawk Eye” technology in the Spanish League. While Barcelona had supported La Liga’s decision not to need the technology, which led to it not being applied in local matches, a decision on which the League relied in implementing the tournament without the “Hawk Eye” technology.
