Brazilian Rivaldo, Barcelona legend and former Real Madrid coach, has been nominated to take over the position of coach at Barcelona, succeeding Xavi Hernandez, who will leave the position at the end of the season.
Barcelona bid farewell to all tournaments this season, so the administration is seeking to correct the situation and return to competition again, and its most important priority currently is hiring a coach who can lead Barcelona to titles again.
During his statements reported by the British newspaper “The Sun”, Rivaldo stressed the importance of not overlooking Jose Mourinho’s experience, due to his previous history in coaching Real Madrid.
Mourinho, a two-time Champions League winner, is currently out of work since his dismissal from Roma coaching last January.
Rivaldo pointed out, saying: “There may be some fans who prefer not to bring in former players or coaches of the opposing team, but Mourinho previously worked in Barcelona alongside Sir Bobby Robson, and he has shown that he is a great personality.”
He added: “Although some fans may be concerned about him coming to Barcelona, he is a coach with a proven track record.”
He explained: “It is clear that moving to Barcelona will be a different matter for him, especially since he knows the team, the Spanish League and the Champions League well, and has extensive experience.”
Rivaldo completed his statements by commenting on the possibility of Pep Guardiola returning to Barcelona, saying: “I do not think he will return to Barcelona any time soon, and perhaps returning to his home is the only option he is considering.”
