The outlines of German coach Hansi Flick’s project at Barcelona are beginning to emerge as his second season approaches, and he has started making his first crucial decisions. Flick has laid out a clear plan for the upcoming season, one element of which is reducing the number of non-essential players. The club intends to finalize four departures in the coming days to create both financial and technical room for new signings.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, the names on the list of departures include Ansu Fati, Iñaki Peña, Álex Valle, and Clément Lenglet. These players are no longer part of the coach’s plans, and Barcelona’s management has made a clear decision to put them up for sale, with their futures to be resolved before the summer transfer window officially opens.
Ansu Fati’s situation is the most advanced of the four, as the young player has failed to regain his top form or impress Flick in training. The club has clearly informed him that he is no longer part of their plans and that his departure is imminent.
French club Monaco is currently the leading candidate to sign him, with negotiations already at an advanced stage. The deal is expected to be a loan with an option to buy for around €20 million. Fati is seeking stability and regular playing time to revive his career, and he may find both at the principality club.
The second name on the list is Iñaki Peña. The goalkeeper, who has served as a backup to Marc-André ter Stegen, no longer has a justified place in the squad, especially with the club nearing an agreement to sign Juan García, who is expected to become the first-choice goalkeeper next season.
Peña has received offers from several clubs and is seriously considering leaving Camp Nou. Among the interested parties are Celta Vigo, which is looking for competition for Vicente Guaita, and Galatasaray, which has made a more lucrative and sporting offer. Barcelona is willing to let him go for around €5 million, and the deal could be completed before the beginning of July.
As for Álex Valle, his future appears to be largely settled. The left-back, who spent the season on loan at Italian club Como, has impressed the technical staff there, and the club has expressed its intention to activate the purchase option for €6 million. Valle played a key role this season, helping the team secure its place in Serie A.
Despite his talent, Barcelona believes his spot in the first team is uncertain due to the presence of Alejandro Balde and the club’s confidence in other young players. The transfer is expected to be completed in the coming days.
The Clément Lenglet situation is also close to resolution. The French defender, who spent the season on loan at Atlético Madrid, had a solid campaign under Diego Simeone, and the club would like to retain him. However, Atlético does not plan to pay a transfer fee, so the most likely solution is a mutual termination of his contract with Barcelona.
Lenglet has expressed his desire to stay with the Rojiblancos, while Barcelona is keen to offload his high salary, which is estimated at around €16 million annually. The deal is expected to be finalized before June 15, allowing him to be available for Atlético Madrid in the Club World Cup.
Hansi Flick is aiming to build a leaner and more competitive squad aligned with his tactical vision. The departure of these players will not only open the door for reinforcements but will also ease the financial burden and give the club greater flexibility in the transfer market—particularly in key areas such as winger, central midfield, and striker.
