Pau Coparsi is fully aware of his close friend’s plans: to leave before the end of the winter transfer window for a new challenge outside of Barcelona. The reason is clear: Hansi-Dieter Flick has lost faith in the player, prompting him to make the decisive move to seek a new future.
The protagonist in this surprise move is Andrés Cuenca, one of the most promising young talents from La Masia academy, who was considered one of the brightest young defenders for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team. His exceptional talent and immense potential allowed him to make his debut with the first team last season, fulfilling a childhood dream. However, the opportunity didn’t materialize under Flick, leading him to reject all contract renewal offers from the club.
Cuenca’s contract expires on June 30th, and he is dissatisfied with playing only for the reserve team, prompting him to seek a complete change of scenery. His future now lies in Serie A, where he will join Como, the team managed by Cesc Fàbregas, on a free transfer, with Barcelona retaining 20% of any future sale, according to the newspaper Sport.
Cuenca is expected to spend his first stint in Serie A with a second-division team to gain more experience, leaving Camp Nou disappointed by Flick and the lack of confidence he showed, despite a previous promise to give him a chance after the departure of Iñigo Martínez.
