With the start of Hansi Flick’s second season at Barcelona, the Catalan club is seeking to rebuild the team according to a new, more balanced and effective vision. This requires offloading some players who are no longer part of the technical staff’s plans for next season. In this context, the management has taken a clear step by terminating the contract of French defender Clément Lenglet.
Spanish club Atlético Madrid officially announced the extension of Clément Lenglet’s contract for three years, after the player terminated his contract with Barcelona by mutual consent.
Atlético Madrid stated via its official account on the “X” platform that the French defender signed a new contract with the team until the summer of 2028, continuing his career with the Rojiblancos after a season spent on loan from Barcelona.
Lenglet played last season for Atlético Madrid, participating in 34 matches, scoring three goals, and providing two assists, which prompted the club’s management to retain his services permanently. The player joined Barcelona in 2018 from Sevilla and made 160 appearances for the Catalan club across various competitions, scoring seven goals and winning several titles, most notably the Spanish League, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.
Lenglet’s departure represents the latest in a series of expected moves by Barcelona to offload players who are not part of Flick’s future project, in preparation for signing new players capable of leading the team towards serious competition for domestic and European titles.
