Barcelona is preparing for a crucial summer transfer window that will determine the future of its sporting project in the short and medium term. In this context, president Joan Laporta is implementing an ambitious strategic plan worth only €100 million, which he believes will transform Hansi Flick’s new team without compromising the club’s financial balance.

According to information from the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, the first steps of this plan have already begun, with Barcelona investing €25 million this week to complete the signing of Espanyol goalkeeper Juan García. The young goalkeeper is expected to start immediately in the first team as a starter, given the full confidence of the sporting management and coach Flick in his technical quality and future importance.

Alongside the sporting aspect, the deal represents a step towards rejuvenating the goalkeeper position and moving on from the era of Ter Stegen, whose departure is currently under negotiation. García will provide the team with security in this position, while earning a salary significantly lower than his German counterpart.

The second deal Laporta is considering is signing Bayer Leverkusen full-back Alex Grimaldo, who has been one of Europe’s most prominent defenders this season.

Negotiations hinge on the possible departure of Gerard Martín, who has received several offers promising more playing time. If the deal is completed for €15 million, Flick will have a strong replacement for Alejandro Balde, increasing competition for that position.

The third and most ambitious step in Laporta’s plan is signing Nico Williams. The club is seriously considering activating his €60 million release clause to avoid entering into negotiations with Athletic Bilbao.

Flick sees Nico as a necessary addition to the team’s attack, thanks to his speed, energy, and ability to penetrate defenses. The player’s good relationship with Lamine Yamal could also contribute to forming a promising attacking duo in the coming years.

With the three deals decided upon, Laporta is now focusing on how to finance the €100 million plan. He realizes this will not be possible without player sales or new cash inflows, but he is counting on some potential departures and additional financing options to achieve the goal.

Barcelona needs strong reinforcements, and Laporta believes these three signings will give Hansi Flick a more balanced and competitive squad without the need for huge expenditures.
If the plan succeeds, the team will include a reliable goalkeeper, a top-class full-back, and a decisive winger—three additions capable of changing the face of the Catalan project without harming its financial stability.
